A note to start: for the next couple of days I'll be putting 'GDC' in front of new announcements that have taken place in San Francisco at the Games Developers Conference 2011. First up is an expanded look at Battlefield 3, the next full entry in the franchise after spin-off series Bad Company took control for several years. Here we get a glimpse at game-play from the single player campaign mode, looking dazzling for a PC game (although PS3 and Xbox 360 will be getting equally impressive versions at the same time this Autumn) and featuring the explosive combat the first-person shooters are known and loved for. The online modes- not shown here but definitely playing a huge part in Battlefield 3 will allow up to 64 gamers to battle on PC and 24 on 360 and PlayStation, so if the campaign isn't enough the always groundbreaking multi-player should be enough to make this one of the (if not the) best shooters of the year.
