Glee: Furt Review (4/5)
I'll try not to give too much away in case some people haven't yet seen Furt yet, but basically there are a few anticipated and frankly bizarre weddings on Glee this week, and the latest episode theme works in its favour...for the most part. Much as I hate to start with a gripe, that the story goes for half an hour without a single musical number to speak of harkens back to the horrid days where the show would focus too much on its plot and not enough on its genre, to the grief of critics and fans alike. That aside, new side-plots such as the introduction of Sue's mother as a dedicated Nazi hunter and the closure of Kurt's bullying with a quite shocking cliff-hanger as the episode ended were both effective, and when the songs did start to emerge, we got some great renditions of Marry You, Just The Way You Are and Ohio at the main wedding of the hour, Kurt's father and Finn's mother. Though I was angry with the slow opening scenes, and one or two of the later numbers weren't as memorable as those I've mentioned, I want Glee to keep taking big risks as it did the end of Furt, since that was one of the first points where I was genuinely excited to see where the programme takes us next week...
