Could a high-definition version of the second instalment round off the 360's lifespan?
Reports are abound right now that an Anniversary edition of Halo 2 will surface in the next year or so. It would be hot on the heels of the strong success of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and if released in 2013 it would act as a nine-year celebration of the popularity of the science-fiction sequel. Halo 2 focused on Master Chief's brief return to Earth after his adventures abroad, where he found his own planet sieged by the Covenant and the first threads of his final battle with the colossal alien army began to fall in place. Microsoft are clearly keen to make the Halo franchise an annual one, as since 2007 we've had Halo 3, Halo Wars, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, so this certainly wouldn't seem like an unreasonable guess what with 343 likely needing a couple of years to then get to good work on Halo 5. Alternatively, perhaps we'll get another ODST-esque spin-off to fill the time, since the developers may not want to tie themselves into trying to move more Anniversary editions into the next generation of Xbox. All the same, we do still know for sure that Halo 4 ships on November 6th.
