Marvel Studios change the release date of the first Avengers Phase Three movie in a shock turn of events!
Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios have today confirmed a new release date for their upcoming superhero motion picture Ant-Man. Directed by The World's End's Edgar Wright, this standalone film marks the first instalment in 'Phase Three' of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, taking place after the events of The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
What's of most interest regarding the release date alteration is where it places Marvel's overall franchise strategy. Ant-Man will now be released just two months after the launch of The Avengers: Age of Ultron in cinemas worldwide, and just two weeks after the launch of Superman VS Batman. Disney are no doubt hoping to continue the intensity of the wave of their success with the second Avengers movie, and kicking off the Phase Three arc so early on should be an intriguing development, although Zack Snyder's DC follow-up could prove detrimental to Wright's piece. At least Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Season Three should be able to pick up where Ant-Man leaves off in the Autumn...
Ant-Man crawls into cinemas worldwide on July 31st, 2015.
