The BBC have today released the first promotional trailer for their upcoming fantasy drama TV series Atlantis. Fulfilling the same purpose as Merlin by entertaining young viewers in the Saturday teatime slot each week of the Autumn, the new series will consist of thirteen 45-minute episodes and begin broadcasting from later this month.
As viewers will see in the initial trailer (below), the show's narrative focuses on a young hero called Jason living in the lost Ancient Greek city Atlantis and features a trio of protagonists battling against the fantastical monsters and human evils both above and beneath the famous realm. There's not going to be much in the way of well-known stars cast for the first season, just as Merlin's début run was light on beloved supporting cast members, but with any luck the BBC may have another rising hit on their hands for young viewers...
Atlantis hits BBC One on Saturday September 21st.
