Who News: Twelfth Doctor Details Teased

The ending approaches, but a new beginning awaits. Steven Moffat teases Peter Capaldi's role as the Twelfth Doctor!
Executive producer and showrunner Steven Moffat has today provided new hints at what to expect from Peter Capaldi's incarnation of Doctor Who. Speaking to Nerd3, the helm of Who and Sherlock has teased that thanks to his predecessor Russell T Davies, he has a masterplan in mind for the explanation of Peter Capaldi's other roles in the franchise's universe (Caecillius in The Fires of Pompeii and John Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth).

Just how could the Twelfth Doctor's similar appearance to a Roman citizen and a political defender of secrets be explained, then? Here's what Steven had to say on the matter: "We are aware that Peter Capaldi's played a big old part in Doctor Who and Torchwood before and we are not going to ignore that fact. I remember Russell told me that he had a big old plan as to why there were two Peter Capaldis in the Who universe: one in Pompeii and one in Torchwood. When I cast Peter and Russell got in touch to say how he pleased he was, I said, "Okay, what was your theory and does it still work?" And he said, "Yes it does. Here it is..." We'll play that one out over time. It's actually quite neat."

Doctor Who will return for Series Eight, starring Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, in Summer 2014.
