Assassin's Creed: Pirates Announced

Want more Assassin's Creed? Of course you do, and Ubisoft is only too happy to oblige...
Ubisoft Montreal have today announced the development of Assassin's Creed: Pirates for release on tablet devices later this year. Set to the backdrop of the events of the upcoming fantasy historical video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the handheld instalment will feature new and old characters including Blackbeard and Assassin/Templar agents.

So just what is Pirates, then? According to Ubisoft's marketing team, it is a naval-focused portable experience which has players building a crew on the high seas, customising their ships and searching for treasure while encountering legendary pirate figures of history. Whether Pirates' redux gameplay can match the ambitious mechanics of its console inspiration is going to be one of the biggest unknown questions surrounding the projects for now, yet previous handheld entries like Liberation and Bloodlines at least provide promising evidence that it'll turn out to be a satisfying endeavour!

Assassin's Creed: Pirates will retail on iOS and Android devices worldwide this November.
