The adventures don't stop with Green Arrow and the Flash- Fox commission a third DC franchise for televisual adaptation!
Fox Studios have today revealed (via Deadline) the commissioning of a new television drama series, Gotham, for broadcast in the near future. Conceived in the wake of the unprecedented success of their superhero saga Arrow, their latest commissioned project will likely fulfil a similar level of popularity, especially in light of its proposed source material.
The most important element of the show at hand is as such: don't expect the Dark Knight to feature as a primary protagonist character. Instead, Gotham will reportedly feature Captain Jim Gordon as its central hero, its narrative taking place in Gordon's younger days working on the GCPD as the first super villains began to emerge. Taking this approach should enable Fox to avoid any unintended continuity conflicts with DC Entertainment's upcoming motion picture Batman Vs. Superman, though whether followers of the new series will have their interest sustained with the lack of the Caped Crusader himself will be a fundamental question in its first season. Certainly, with Arrow and Marvel's Agents of SHIELD (and a proposed Flash show) already dominating the realms of TV drama in the States, there's definitely a market for shows of this ilk to continue growing and prospering as their motion picture counterparts are for the foreseeable future.
Gotham will commence broadcasting on Fox and Sky One in Autumn 2014.
