Ubisoft Games have today announced the release date of their upcoming animated RPG video game South Park: The Stick of Truth. Based on Trey Parker and Matt Stone's hit Comedy Central show, Stick casts the player as the 'New Kid' in South Park, tasking them with forming an alliance with Cartman and the rest of the gang in order to recover the elusive titular weapon before it falls into the hands of enemy forces.
On paper, this is a project which isn't necessarily guaranteed to succeed. South Park has always been something of an acquired taste- a Marmite show, if you will. While the programme has its fair share of fans, whether the fanbase strays too far into the cult region of entertainment fandom will ultimately define the game's commercial success. With any luck, though, having Fallout: New Vegas' Obsidian Entertainment on board and the publisher behind Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs distributing the product will at the very least help its overall chances...
South Park: The Stick of Truth bursts onto Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on December 12th (UK).
