Ubisoft Montreal have today announced new details on their upcoming fantasy open-world video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The details in question pertain to the modern-day Abstergo Industries sequences that will frame the gameplay experience, as the player inhibits the role of a new recruit at Abstergo who is hired to delve into Desmond's memories and learn more on the threat of Juno in Edward Kenway's nautical memories.
Just what was revealed on these structurally key sequences on the developer's Twitter account, then? Here's our round-up on all of the new details about Black Flag's Abstergo missions:
- There will be a variety of hacking mini-games within the depths of Abstergo, allowing the player to essentially become a modern day pirate in order to learn more of the secrets of the company.
- The Abstergo sequences form a "handful" of missions in the context of the overall game, a less major ratio than Assassin's Creed III's Desmond sequences. Nevertheless, they're an integral element in the overall story arc of the campaign.
- Subject 16 will not feature in the narrative, but Subject 17 (Desmond) will in some form.
- This version of Abstergo is located in Quebec, and boasts supporting characters both old and new.
- Anyone looking for Desmond-esque combat in the modern day sequences a la Brotherhood will be left disappointed, though- the focus is on dialogue, entering the Animus and optional hacking missions.
- Juno doesn't have the power to alter the world, so the immediate ramifications of her influence and the threat that she poses won't be seen by the player...yet. Prepare for another prolonged series arc a la Marvel's Avengers Phase Two saga, as we discover more over the course of further annual Creeds.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag retails on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Nintendo WiiU and PC on November 1st.
