Thief Release Date Announced

The next big contender to topple Assassin's Creed from its throne is nearly here- Thief arrives next year...
Square Enix have today announced the release date of their upcoming stealth-adventure video game product Thief. A reboot in the universe of the acclaimed Thief franchise, this new instalment focuses on a semi-steampunk world thrown into anarchy, where a single master thief could just destabilize the seeds of corruption unravelling in his city, taking down a villainous tyrant in the process.

If the set-up for current proceedings sounds somewhat familiar, then it's probably because Assassin's Creed and Thief seem to share a fair few attributes. With any luck, though, the premise and initial gameplay parallels will be the only elements of deja vu, and Square Enix's decision to push the project back three months after Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's release should ideally offer them the chance to provide a fresh and unique new narrative experience.

Thief sneaks onto Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC on February 28th, 2014.
