Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios have this week released the first theatrical trailer for their upcoming superhero film Thor: The Dark World. Launching in cinemas later this year, this tense sequel to 2011's Thor chronicles the Asgardian Avenger's (Chris Hemsworth) return to his home planet along with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) after the events of the acclaimed 2012 ensemble piece Avengers Assemble.
Once he's reunited with his friends and allies in Asgard, though, trouble strikes, as the Dark Elf Malkeith (Christopher Eccleston) leads a siege against the kingdom. To stop this oncoming darkness, Thor and Odin (Anthony Hopkins) must call upon the one man who they both know is beyond redemption and trust- Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Rightly enough, this second preview of The Dark World plays up Hiddleston's presence on a major scale, presumably showcasing Disney's intent to lure in mainstream viewers via one of the most popular elements of Avengers by far. This one is fast becoming one of our most anticipated films of 2013's latter half, and we'll have all the latest news on plot developments and potential hidden links to The Avengers: Age of Ultron as we move closer to release.
Thor: The Dark World leaps from the Bifrost into UK cinemas everywhere on October 30th.
