Coming Up This Week: August 19th-25th

The Newsroom returns, Gamescom bursts out with a tonne of video gaming news, new and old franchises bring out their latest instalments and more!
The further we get into the year 2013, the more hectic the entertainment release schedule seems to get. Indeed, the next seven days are absolutely packed with big new releases, kick-starting the chain of thrills set to highlight the remaining four months of the year. September, October, November and December will bring us a virtually ceaseless onslaught of releases, meaning that the second half of August is essentially a grand taster of what's to come!

With the nature of this extremely busy week in mind, we shan't delay any further. Here's our round-up of all of the best entertainment releases in the next seven days:

GAMESCOM 2013- Ready for me? As if E3 2013 weren't enough, we're now on the eve of yet another big video gaming conference, a conference which this year will feature major showcases from both Microsoft and Sony. We can be sure to expect release details for both of the big next-generation consoles, as well as more exclusive reveals for Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and plenty of upcoming blockbuster titles! (Monday 19th-Sunday 25th)
THE NEWSROOM SEASON TWO- It's been a long old wait, but Sky On Demand are now only too happy to oblige their fans with the return of The Newsroom for a preview premiere. Sky Atlantic's broadcast of the entire season commences on September 2nd, yet for now, followers of the show can watch Episode One, First Thing We Do, Let's Kill All The Lawyers, first on the download service...(Tuesday 20th)
THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES- Cassandra Clare's hit teen fiction fantasy saga The Mortal Instruments is finally coming to the screen, introducing newcomers Jemima West and Jamie Campbell Bower to a wide variety of new audiences. Undoubtedly, there's a Twilight-esque vibe to the production, but that's not to say that it can't be a critical success- certainly, it's a motion picture to keep your eye on should you have the cash spare. (Wednesday 21st)
DOCTOR WHO EDINBURGH FESTIVAL REVEAL- Steven Moffat will be joining the ensemble at the Edinburgh Media Guardian Television Festival this week for an in-depth interview on the future of Doctor Who. We can expect new details on the 50th Anniversary Special, the 2013 Christmas Special, the Twelfth Doctor and Series Eight at this event at 10.30pm on Wednesday, so you'd be a fool to go anywhere other than On-Screen for all of the best coverage! (Wednesday 21st)
TROLLIED SEASON THREE- Sky are on a roll this week, premiering both The Newsroom's second season and the return of one of their most beloved comedies. Again, the first episode of Trollied's third thirteen-part run is available online, and a nationwide broadcast is coming to Sky1 later this week. The initial instalment introduces Richard France, the eccentric new Director of Strategy at Valco, into the mix with hilarious results...(Thursday 22nd)
SPLINTER CELL: BLACKLIST, SAINT'S ROW 4 & THE BUREAU: XCOM DECLASSIFIED- A triple blitz of AAA video games hit our stores in the final days of the week, reviving a few great franchises at the climax of the current console generation. Splinter Cell, Saint's Row and XCOM each have their own respective loyal fanbases, and judging by the promising evidence presented in videos and reviews, if you're a member of any of those followings then these new instalments aren't likely to disappoint. (Friday 23rd)
DISNEY INFINITY- Yet another big video game release on the horizon this week, Disney Infinity could well mark a major breakthrough in the realms of 'kids gaming'. Whereas Skylanders once dominated the conceptual use of action figures on Portals, with the introduction of Toy Sets and a wealth of acclaimed Disney film franchises, Avalanche Games have a massive potential hit on their hands. The Starter Pack brings players the Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles and Monsters' University story campaigns via Jack Sparrow, Mr Incredible and Sully respectively, but the most exciting part is that the pack is really just the tip of the iceberg, with other sets like Cars and The Lone Ranger along with plenty of classic characters already available to expand this groundbreaking platforming experience! (Friday 23rd)
DOCTOR WHO: SPORE- The 50th Anniversary eBook Doctor Who saga continues this week with the release of Alex Scarrow's Eighth Doctor adventure Spore. Far from Will Wright's ambitious sci-fi video game project, this tale takes Paul McGann's incarnation and a one-off companion to the Arizona Desert to investigate a growing plague which once threatened to wipe out the Time Lords. There's plenty of horror-inspired thrills to be had here, as we move ever closer to November...(Friday 23rd)
AND THERE'S MORE- Scary Movie 5, Oblivion and BBC One's hit period drama series The White Queen are all headed to DVD and Blu-Ray retailers today, plus Warner Brothers Montreal have confirmed that we can expect to discover the fifth assassin in Black Mask's team for Batman: Arkham Origins this Wednesday.
AND NEXT WEEK...Another major week for entertainment, the next seven days will bring with them a return for the Doctor in Doctor Who At The Proms 2013, a sequel to one of 2010's most acclaimed video games in Rayman Legends, the penultimate instalment of Derek Landy's cult teen fiction fantasy franchise in Skulduggery Pleasant: Last Stand of Dead Men and even a new Coldplay song taken from the soundtrack of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Exciting!
