XCOM: Enemy Within Announced

Fans left unexcited by The Bureau this year will get their full taste at a new XCOM game at Gamescom...
2K Games and Firaxis Games have today announced the development of a new science-fiction strategy video game, XCOM: Enemy Within, for release in the near future. A successor to Firaxis' hit 2012 real-time-strategy franchise title XCOM: Enemy Unknown, it is not yet currently known whether this will be an expansion pack or a fully-fledged sequel, although the period that has passed since the original's release suggests the latter eventuality.

One thing that we do know without a doubt is that Enemy Within will premiere at the Gamescom Convention in Cologne later this month. Essentially the second biggest video gaming event of each year (E3 retaining its throne by an all-too-minor margin), this convention will bring it with a plethora of video game announcements including a new next-generation IP from Ubisoft and more news on both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. By the looks of things, then, a new XCOM reveal is just the icing on the proverbial cake.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified retails on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on August 23rd. Gamescom 2013 begins on Tuesday August 20th.
