Superman Vs. Batman Lead Star Announced

One of the biggest names in Hollywood will adopt the mantle of the Dark Knight in one of 2015's biggest blockbusters!
Warner Brothers Pictures have today announced a major lead cast member in their upcoming superhero crossover movie Superman Vs. Batman. Starring Henry Cavill and taking place after the events of this year's hit motion picture Man of Steel, this follow-up will loosely adapt the acclaimed graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns along with other elements of both Superman and Batman lore.

Today, then, marks a definitive step forward in pre-production progress. We now know for certain that Ben Affleck will play Bruce Wayne and his caped alter-ego Batman in the upcoming project. Other cast members reprising their roles confirmed so far include Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishbourne (Perry White) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent), but this development in particular is doubly thrilling, seeing as Affleck's performance work in recent efforts like Argo has been nothing short of sublime, setting a brilliant precedent for what's to come here.

Here's what Zack Snyder had to say on the matter: "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him." Of course, this does mean that the storyline of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy must no longer be the present Batman narrative, given Bruce's hanging up of the cowl at the climax of The Dark Knight Rises, but fans should no doubt have faith in Snyder to do the character's new incarnation justice.

Superman Vs. Batman collides into cinemas worldwide on July 17th, 2015.
