"It's the end...but the moment has been prepared for." Believe it or not, the next seven days are amongst the final days remaining in our Summer of Film 2013 season. With them will come a few more significant blockbusters that are sure to appeal to a wide variety of fanbases, even if they don't have the far-reaching prowess of motion pictures such as Man of Steel, Monsters' University, Iron Man 3 and The Wolverine.
That's not all this week, though- aside from overcoming the sheer shock of tomorrow night's Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor announcement come Monday morning, there's a few more entertainment mediums that have something to offer. Believe us, though, things only get busier and busier from here on out as we move further towards the end of August and ever closer to the end of 2013...
THOR: THE DARK WORLD TRAILER 2- Are you ready for more superhero action? Well, a certain film releasing next week may well have something to offer, but until then, Marvel Studios are back for more adventure. Enter a brand new trailer for Thor: The Dark World, following hot on the heels of the release of Iron Man 3 earlier this Summer and set to continue Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Two in Nordic style...(Wednesday 7th)
PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS- One of a host of literary motion picture adaptations coming our way in the second half of 2013, Sea of Monsters is the big-screen follow-up to 2010's relatively successful Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Quite whether bringing new stars such as Anthony Head into the cast ensemble is really going to make much difference in terms of the fledging franchise's popularity remains to be seen, but for fans of the saga this sequel boasts plenty of high-octane action! (Wednesday 7th)
DOCTOR WHO: THE COMPANIONS- Following up on their Doctor Who: The Daleks 'bookazine' released back in May, the official Doctor Who Magazine are continuing their celebrations with the release of this second book/magazine publication. Themed around the Time Lord's various companions, the new issue chronicles each and every main ally of the character since Susan's debut in An Unearthly Child, bringing us right up to date with an analysis of the resolved mystery of Clara Oswald in The Name of the Doctor. This is set to be a comprehensive recollection of companions gone by, and one that fans can not afford to miss this year. (Wednesday 7th)
GROWN UPS 2- Adam Sandler. Kevin James. Chris Rock. David Spade. Are those four star names enough to entice viewers to see a film? If so, then Grown Ups 2 will go down a storm. If not, then the follow-up to one of the most critically divisive motion picture comedies of recent times could potentially flop and prove that Adam Sandler should not make comedy franchises. In all honesty, it seems unlikely this will prove to be either a bonafida financial hit or tragedy, but a fun watch anyway for fans of Sandler. (Friday 9th)
ALAN PARTRIDGE: ALPHA PAPA- Undoubtedly, Alpha Papa is one of the more divisive propositions of the Summer of Film. There are plenty of fans of the Alan Partridge TV series starring Steve Coogan, but it has got its equal share of naysayers too. Your interest in this release, then, will depend on your interest in its source material, yet there's clearly enough of you out there finding enough appeal to warrant a big-screen version anyway. Let loose the hounds of Partridge! (Friday 9th)
THE LONE RANGER- UK releases of advance US films are always tough these days, especially when the release in question has been critically panned in previous weeks. Indeed, with The Lone Ranger Disney have apparently hit upon another John Carter scenario, producing a new version of a forgotten entertainment franchise with an approach that garners little in the way of applause. By the sounds of criticism so far, The Lone Ranger is only truly worthy of a watch for Johnny Depp diehards- keep that in the midst of your consideration before electing to spend your hard-earned cash on a ticket...(Friday 9th)
AND THERE'S MORE- Boardwalk Empire: Series 3; Doctor Who: The Green Death- Special Edition and Nicholas Cage's Stolen are all headed to DVD and Blu-Ray retailers everywhere on Monday, so pick any of them up if you're a member of one of the fanbases attached to those three franchises/stars.
AND NEXT WEEK...The two final movies of the Summer of Film blast into cinemas- yes, Kick-Ass 2 is here! Oh, and Planes too. Plus, Big School kicks off on BBC One- don't miss it...
