The Doctor returns THIS MONTH! Well, in a manner of speaking...Adding to the exhilaration of their Twelfth Doctor reveal today, the BBC have confirmed a broadcast date for the televised version of Doctor Who At The Proms 2013. Featuring a mini-episode combining recorded and live elements and starring Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman, its narrative taking place after the events of The Name of the Doctor (although 'canon' may be something of a stretch!), this celebratory 50th Anniversary concert went down a storm with BBC Proms visitors earlier this Summer, but until now those of us who didn't make the event were unable to see precisely what our Proms colleagues did.
Thankfully, BBC One will be transmitting a highlights version of this particular Prom later this month. We don't expect it to feature all of the footage of the Proms, for fear of upsetting those fans who believed themselves to hold a degree of exclusivity by attending the event, but there should also be an extended cut on the 50th Anniversary Specials DVD boxset in the New Year that will inevitably release to combine the 50th and Christmas Specials. Make no mistake, with appearances from the Eleventh Doctor, Clara, Vastra, Strax, the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Fifth Doctor and Susan, this is not an 'episode' of Who to be ignored!
