ABC Studios have today announced their intended premiere date for the first season of Joss Whedon's fantasy television series Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. Taking place after the events of Avengers Assemble, this initial run will focus on the revival of Agent Coulson from his supposed demise in that blockbuster film, and his subsequent attempts to form a team to combat supernatural and extraterresterial threats not unlike those the Avengers faced last year.
Agents of SHIELD certainly promises to be one of the hottest television seasons premiering this Fall. The reason? If all goes to plan, the show could provide a strong segueway between each filmic instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, bridging the events of April's Iron Man 3 and October's Thor: The Dark World, while making the long haul to April 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier seem that much more bearable for fans. Should Agents be commissioned for a second season, and we here at On-Screen can't see how that won't be the case, then potentially Marvel Studios has yet another franchise hit on its hands.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD premieres on ABC on September 24th. A UK broadcaster for the show has yet to be announced, but either way, you can expect a review of the pilot and subsequent episodes shortly after their US broadcast.
