Glee Season Five Premiere Delayed

The tragic passing of Cory Monteith has instigated a brief but significant setback for Glee's next run.
Fox Studios have today announced a delay in the production and thus the scheduled premiere of Glee Season Five. The musical comedy-drama show was originally set to return on September 19th with the new season scheduled to shoot in the late delays of July. However, the recent tragedy of star Cory Monteith's passing has rightly forced these dates to shift in order for the show's producers to deal with this loss.

It seems unlikely that Glee will not acknowledge the grief of this passing in some manner. Indeed, when other similarly shocking events have come to pass, the show has usually dealt with them in some form, however explicit or implicit. It's difficult to imagine that Cory's Finn will simply be written out in a haphazard manner, with a fictitious acknowledgment of his passing seeming more probable for a drama that's rarely afraid to deal with layered issues such as this. Indeed, the effects of this event in a fictitious realm on characters such as Rachel, Kurt and Will could provide some of the most compelling and deeply emotional content of the run.

Glee returns to Fox with its fifth season on September 26th, with filming now taking place from early August and a UK broadcast window yet to be announced.
