RIP Cory Monteith (1982-2013)

A personal tribute to the beloved star of Glee, who passed away yesterday evening.
Today, we are sad to confirm the passing of Cory Monteith, who was found deceased in his hotel room during the late hours of yesterday evening. Cory was just 31 at the time of his passing, making this untimely event all the more tragic for those who knew him personally or indeed through his beloved work.

Followers of this blog will likely know that Cory's most acclaimed and publicised role was that of the character of Finn Hudson, a central character in the first three seasons of Glee and a famed supporter of the new New Directions crew in a recurring role over the course of Season Four. Finn's progression as a character would have been engaging to see develop in Season Five, and we of course don't know yet how the show will deal with this matter, but moreso for fans this passing comes as a terrible shock. Nevertheless, those of us who follow Glee will doubtless remember Cory for his unwavering enthusiasm in terms of the songs, the narratives and the charming interactions he shared with his cast colleagues.

Beyond his McKinley High exploits, Cory was involved with a number of other successful television franchises. These included Smallville, Flash Gordan, Killer Instinct and The Simpsons, and in each and every one of his numerous appearances, the actor displayed a trademark sense of passion for the shows he inhabited, leaving his various viewers bestowed with a similarly passionate reaction. All of this inevitably means that such a passing affects not a single fanbase body, nor even two, but countless viewers of television, film and other entertainment genres across the world.

Where do we go from here, then? The answer to this can never be so simple as we would hope, but in times such as these, it's important to cherish our own time with our families, friends and loved ones, coming together when events like this occur to remind ourselves of everything that we do still have. For those who either followed Cory's televisual exploits or indeed who were close to him in personal terms, we can at least remember all of the highlights of his brief time with us, looking back over the works that he gave us to truly retain and celebrate his memory.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Cory's family and friends in this immeasurably difficult time. As a tribute to Cory, I've included below one of his most memorable performances on the stage as part of Glee's New Directions ensemble.
