The Voice 2013 Judging Panel Update Revealed

Another judge departs the BBC talent show before its third season.
The BBC have today announced that Danny O'Donoghue will not return to the judging panel of The Voice UK for a third season next year. O'Donoghue is famed for his membership in the hit Irish pop band The Script, and apparently wants to place more of a focus on his work with the band in 2014 than he can on the BBC One talent show.

Danny joins Jessie J in departing the show ahead of its 2014 return with Season Three, leaving only current judges Will.i.am and Tom Jones to confirm their status or departure from next year's judging panel. Both of the two remaining outstanders have previously indicated that they would not return to the series without their fellow judges, so whether they elect to put their preferences over their contract remains to be seen in the weeks ahead. New replacement judges for Jessie and Danny are expected to be announced later this year.

What could all of this mean for the future of The Voice UK, then? Other talent shows such as Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor have survived similar format and panel shake-ups in the past, but bearing in mind that the BBC's own talent show doesn't have such strong viewership foundations to fall back on, Season Two's lowest ratings falling well below the channel's other Spring primetime programmes like Doctor Who and Casualty. Time will tell, although the channel's heavy advertising campaigns for the show suggest that BBC One aren't unlikely to give up on this project anytime soon.

The Voice UK returns to BBC One for its third season in Spring 2014.
