Katniss and Peeta face the greatest challenge of their lives- how will they survive a second Hunger Games?
Lionsgate Films have today released the second full theatrical trailer for their upcoming fantasy film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (below) at their ComicCon panel. Based on the hit novel of the same title by Suzanne Collins, this second franchise instalment takes its protagonist Katniss Everdeen back to District 12, where she discovers that her victory with Peeta Mallark in the 74th Hunger Games has provoked a state of war in her homeland that could change everything.
Personally, my response to this trailer is somewhat conflicted. On the one hand, there's plenty of great, emotive and potentially substantial content showcased in this preview of the final product, lending weight to this writer's theory that Catching Fire will prove to be the greatest entry in the franchise as a whole. However, a lot of content has been divulged here regarding the latter stages of the movie's narrative, and worse still it may be possible for fans of the original film to feel a sense of lingering deja vu as Katniss enters the training grounds once again in preparation for this ever-deadly contest. Time will tell whether this layered teenage novel can receive full justice on the big screen later this year.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire blazes into cinemas worldwide on November 22nd.
