A Sony Pictures panel reveals more details about one of 2014's most exciting superhero movies!Sony Pictures and director Marc Webb have today announced new details regarding their upcoming superhero film The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Set for release next year, the sequel continues the storyline of the rebooted motion picture universe for the Webbed Wonder established in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, focusing on Spider-Man's first encounter with Electro and his ongoing relationship with Gwen Stacy.
As ever, we've seen fit to round up all of the key announcements and teasers in one article. Without further ado, here's our guide to the slim but significant new details on The Amazing Spider-Man 2:
- The movie concluded shooting just three weeks ago, meaning that the brief teaser trailer shown at the panel was taken from early footage. It featured a brief confrontation with Rhino (who only features in the opening scenes of the film), Max Dillon's humorous interactions with Spidey and his subsequent transformation into the villain we know as Electro, all before a CGI-heavy battle between the pair in the streets of New York. From what sources have reported, the teaser has proved that this follow-up should boast epic scale and ambition.
- Harry Osborn will play a key role in this second instalment. Dane DeHaan says it's an honor to take on this character's legacy, while Chris Cooper's Norman Osborn is likely to remain in the shadows for the majority of the film, confined to his hospital suite with a seemingly terminal affliction.
- Marc Webb has comforted worried fans by confirming that this will not be another Spider-Man 3, crammed with villains to the point of excess. Electro is without a doubt the piece's main villain, with Rhino's appearances amounting to little more than cameos and the Green Goblin unlikely to emerge in anything other than a cliffhanger for Part Three.
