What's coming from the creator of Harry Potter and The Casual Vacancy next? The answer may surprise you...
J.K. Rowling has today revealed the name of her latest novel. Titled The Cuckoo's Calling, the paperback release is a detective thriller...which has been available for nearly four months in stores unbeknownst to fanbases across the world. The reason for this elusive secret? Rowling launched the novel under a pseudonym, Robert Galbraith, in order to elicit an honest and unbiased critical response, which for the most part turned out to be hearteningly positive.
Perhaps this action came as a result of The Casual Vacancy (3.5*) being met with something of a lukewarm reception last Autumn, for the most part due to the inevitable comparisons struck between it and Rowling's beloved Harry Potter children's fiction franchise. The decision makes sense on that front, although that sales of Cuckoo raised by 500,000% (no exaggeration, that is the literal figure) upon the author's unveiling seems to go to show that much of the appeal of Rowling's works lie more in their namesake than their actual quality. Nevertheless, Rowling has today confirmed that The Cuckoo's Calling will be the first instalment in a new series of novels, which is surely great news for fans of the Potter tales who were left hoping for a new franchise to take its place.
The Cuckoo's Calling is available now in high street and digital book retailers everywhere.
