BBC Announce 3D Broadcasting Termination

Upcoming 3D programmes such as the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special will mark the final three-dimensional broadcasts from the BBC.
The BBC have this week confirmed that their 3D broadcasting service will terminate at the conclusion of 2013. The service has been popular only with a minor demographic of viewers, with broadcasts such as Countryfile and BBC Sport programmes failing to attract a substantial number of viewers on a level with what general 2D and HD broadcasts achieve on a daily basis.

This does not mean, however, that all future 3D BBC projects will be scrapped, at least in 2013. Indeed, the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special has been a much-anticipated 3D project, filmed partially in 3D for broadcast on both BBC 3D and in cinemas on November 23rd. Thankfully, this project will still go ahead, with those viewers possessing 3D television sets currently set to be given the option of watching the landmark time-travelling adventure in the third dimension (though not the fourth- time- sadly!) on the big day.

For all the latest updates on BBC services, programmes and projects, keep it On-Screen in the weeks ahead!
