Who News: Music & Moffat Special

Looking at the latest 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Proms included, plus new words from Steven Moffat.
This past weekend has been an incredibly busy time in the world of Doctor Who, with the show's 2013 BBC Proms concerts taking place and bringing with them a host of guest appearances from stars such as Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman, Peter Davison and Carole Ann Ford. Below this round-up article, you'll see a few video and audio highlights from the Proms that are well worth your attention.

First, though, why not have a browse through these latest developments in the realms of Who, including more on the 50th Anniversary Special and its surrounding celebrations:
  • A NEW TIME-FLIGHT!- The BBC's continuing 50th Anniversary celebrations for Doctor Who in 2013 continue this week as the TARDIS, a Dalek and a Cyberman lead a procession of on-site celebrations at London Heathrow airport. Situated at Terminal 5, these daily events including signings of the new paperback novel Dark Horizons by Jenny Colgan, music from the London Philharmonic Orchestra from the show and plenty more surprises. Sufficed to say, if you're taking a trip from or to Heathrow this week and are a fan, this should definitely warrant a viewing.
  • SERIES SEVEN SOUNDS- Silva Screen Records have today released the cover image of their upcoming Series 7 Soundtrack CD release. Set for release this Autumn on two discs, the new album compiles together music ranging from the 2011 Christmas Special The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe to the Series Seven finale The Name of the Doctor broadcast earlier this year. Whether Murray Gold's glorious Song For 50 (see the videos below) will feature has yet to be confirmed, but if not then you can be sure that a compilation album of the music featured in both the 50th Anniversary Special and the 2013 Christmas Special along with this year's Prom will be forthcoming in early 2014.
  • TWO HANDS ARE BETTER THAN ELEVEN- As the 50th Anniversary Special fast approaches, with just over four months remaining until its broadcast, one question remains on many fans' minds- why isn't it The Eleven Doctors? While here at the blog we've tried to explain the illogicality of such a premise on regular occasions, Steven Moffat has come out today and given his own reasoning for focusing on three Doctors, including a new incarnation played by John Hurt, rather than every classic and modern Time Lord: "People are saying, 'Are you going to do The Eleven Doctors?'. We can't do eleven Doctors! Three of them are dead! What we're not doing is the traditional massive reunion- it's a different kind of anniversary, and the spine of that is David and Matt."
Doctor Who returns with its blockbuster 50th Anniversary Special this November 23rd on BBC One.
