New Grand Theft Auto V Details Announced

How many discs, extra resources and memory-consuming pieces of data will you find within your copy of Rockstar's finest hour? Brace yourself.
Rockstar Games have today announced new details on their upcoming open-world video game release Grand Theft Auto V. Set in the city of Los Santos, this new edition of the hit third-person shooter franchise will boast three playable protagonists and an open-world that bests the size of Red Dead Redemption's Wild West and GTA IV's Liberty City combined.

Firstly, in terms of discs found in the retail copy of Grand Theft Auto V, we now know that the Xbox 360 version will consist of two discs, one of which carries a compulsory 8GB install of GTA V game assets and the other allowing the player to actually experience the game once the download is done. Over on PlayStation 3, there will be one disc necessary due to the Blu-Ray format, again necessitating an 8GB install before gameplay can commence. It's a hefty ask for those of us with clogged-up hard drives, make no mistake, but I somehow get the feeling that most of us will make space for this much-anticipated title all the same.

On another note, in terms of what else we can find in our retail copies, it's been confirmed today that a map of Los Santos will be included within the game box. This addition has been typical of all Grand Theft Auto entries ever since 2001's Grand Theft Auto III, so it is reassuring to hear that we will once again have guidance through one of the most impressive open game worlds of recent times. We now also know that a full gameplay demo video will be arriving within the next week or so.

Grand Theft Auto V retails on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17th.
