Clone Wars: Overlords Review (3.5/5)
Overlords marks the first in a dark three-parter for The Clone Wars, and it's certainly a good start. Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka are unwillingly drawn to a mystical planet in a test to see whether one of them is the fabled Chosen One, which is pretty impressive territory for a show to venture in when it had previously only dabbled in Star Wars mythology in its first two seasons. Quickly, though, we found out that not everything was as it first seemed, with The Force Unleashed's Sam Witwer portraying Son, a representation of the Dark Side in everyone that forces Skywalker and his pals to come to terms with their fates, whether good or evil (and we already know which side at least two of the three featured Jedi turn to in Episode III). Liam Neeson and Pernilla August returned as Qui-Gon Jinn and Anakin's mother respectively, but although these were nice cameos, that appeared to be all they were- cameos, nothing more. If Neeson and August are about to form part of a bigger plot arc in this multi-adventure tale then that's fine, but to have them cast aside after such hype was caused (particularly about Neeson's return to Star Wars) by the show's producers is a pretty cheap move. Other than that, the production values of the animation here were at their best, the plot was far more solid than before, and this certainly bodes well for the other two parts of the 'Mortis' trilogy.
