Surprise surprise, Rachel McAdams' Irene Adler will make a return for Sherlock Holmes 2 this December, but perhaps not in the form you might have expected. While McAdams has been coy on whether the elusive love interest of Holmes would make an appearance in this year's sequel recently, she confirmed yesterday in an interview that Adler will 'cameo' in the second film of Robert Downey Jr's faster, edgier adventures as the detective who lives on Baker Street. In the original, Adler flirted with Holmes as he attempted to unravel the true cause of Lord Blackwood's resurrection while also being threatened by Sherlock's future arch-enemy Professor Moriarty from the shadows. The last we saw of Irene, she had said her goodbyes to the Scotland Yard-troubling detective and escaped to pastures anew, so how long her appearance in Sherlock Holmes 2 will be remains to be seen, but the use of the word 'cameo' suggests she'll only appear in one scene. McAdams is also set to star in Morning Glory and Midnight in Paris this year.
