Glee: Grilled Cheesus Review (3/5)
Glee has lost its momentum somewhat this season since the opening episode Audition (5/5), but Grilled Cheesus at least shows signs of an increase in quality for the show, especially given last week's atrocious Britney/Brittany (2.5/5). For a start, things take a turn for the emotional when Kurt's father suffers a heart attack, and surprisingly enough Glee tries to manage the eternal battle of science and religion this week, with many of the main characters having a belief of some sort, praying for Kurt's father while Kurt himself is an atheist. Adding to this is Finn's apparent discovery of the titular grilled son of God, whereby he prays to a piece of toast supposedly resembling Jesus and seems to have his prayers granted. This religous undertone, however, does lead to a few renditions of spiritual songs that might have been better left untapped (Kurt's "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" may well go down in infamy as the next "A House Is Not A Home"). That Kurt's parent was never exactly the most likeable recurring character doesn't do Grilled Cheesus any favours either- why should we try to feel empathy for someone who hasn't featured nearly as prominently as the likes of Sue Sylvester or Coach Beast so hasn't become as well-known as those lot? If this episode is anything to go by, then things might be heading up for Glee Season Two- but let's keep the focus on the characters we like next time, shall we?
