Everyone's favourite Star-Spangled hero faces the ultimate irony, launching in the UK first...
Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios have today finalised the official UK release date for their upcoming superhero film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A follow-up to 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and 2012's Avengers Assemble, the movie follows its titular Avenger during the days succeeding the Battle of New York, as Steve Rogers attempts to adjust to a new world, new allies and new responses to terrorists threats.
For Cap, it's not all change, though. One strikingly familiar element of the World War Two veteran's past is back to haunt him: the Winter Soldier, better known to Steve as his old friend Bucky Barnes. The Winter Soldier is adapted from one of (in this writer's view, at least) the finest Captain America graphic novels of all time, but with powerful source material comes an intense level of pressure, and if this present-day sequel is to flourish, then it must diversify from what's gone before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as quickly as possible once the titles have rolled. If it falls into the unfortunate category of those instalments in the franchise which have tried and failed to do so, all eyes will focus on Guardians of the Galaxy, this year's second and even more dangerous MCU chapter...
Captain America: The Winter Soldier mobilizes in UK cinemas nationwide on March 26th.
