Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment have today announced that a new downloadable narrative expansion for their superhero game Batman: Arkham Origins is currently in development. A prequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, Origins wasn't received with open arms in the vein of its predecessors, earning a mediocre 6/10 at On-Screen and a 74% average score for Xbox 360 on Metacritic.
WB Games revealed the news of an additional DLC campaign on their official Batman: Arkham Twitter account, much to the discontent of those fans eagerly awaiting the announcement of a new Rocksteady-helmed project. Here's the original tweet:

The screenshot attached to the tweet features the 'Wayne Foundation Humanitarian of the Year Awards' statuette encased in a sheet of ice. In the realms of Batman mythology, frozen iconography tends to eventually link back to Victor Fries, aka the Dark Knight's cold-blooded adversary Mr Freeze. Last seen in Arkham City, Freeze was neither physically present in Origins' storyline nor referenced in any substantial form in WB Montreal's 2013 product. This DLC expansion presents a prime opportunity, then, for the character to make a re-entrance into the series, although the development studio must remain cautious, because if Origins should have taught them one fact, it's that fans won't accept a like-for-like reproduction of what's come before in this instance.Batman: Arkham Origins' final DLC expansion will retail this Spring.
