343 Industries have this week released a new teaser promotional image for their upcoming first-person shooter Halo for Xbox One. Set to be released before the year's out, the eighth franchise instalment will pick up after the events of Halo 4, with Cortana destroyed and the series' protagonist the Master Chief on a vengeance mission against the seemingly omnipotent Promethean armada.
If our anticipation level was high before this new concept art reveal (above left), then, well...it's hardly going to have changed afterwards, in all honesty. That the UNSC will feature in the next chapter of Halo is made blatantly obvious by the appearance of one of their flagships in the image, but that a futuristic, urban and evidently densely populated alien city will act as one of the campaign's core settings comes as even less of surprise given the franchise's previous locales, and as such offers insubstantial evidence of an inspired new direction coming from 343's development team. Nevertheless, we'll hold judgement until the final product is in our hands- the proof will be in the pudding, as they say.
Halo for Xbox One will retail exclusively on Xbox One this Autumn.
