The much-maligned MMORPG gets its last chance to shine this Spring.
Square Enix have this week announced the global release date for the upcoming PS4 version of their massively-multiplayer-online-role playing video game Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. A relaunch of a previously-released MMORPG which débuted in 2010 exclusively for PC, the upgraded product has been developed by an entirely new team with the sole intent of winning back fans after their lukewarm reception to the first edition.
As if it weren't enough for XIV to have returned to Microsoft Windows devices, A Realm Reborn was additionally made available for Sony's PlayStation 3 at launch in August 2013. The PS4 version will presumably be the most accurate representation of what fans can expect from future Final Fantasy instalments, a matter which has franchise followers intrigued right now with regards to the planned release of FFXV on next-generation hardware. Xbox gamers looking for their first dose of next-gen role-playing escapades from Square still have a long wait, though: XIV is skipping Xbox One, meaning that Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III will be the developers' first projects to launch for Microsoft's home console.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will retail for PlayStation 4 on April 14th.
