Agent 47's mission continues on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2015.
Square Enix and IO Interactive have this week announced that a next-generation Hitman video game is currently in development. Taking place after the events of the controversial 2012 sequel Hitman: Absolution, the next instalment in the series was rumoured to have been cancelled earlier this month, but it transpires that the canned project was in fact only a handheld title in the works at Square Enix Montreal.
IO's work on their next open-world stealth shooter probably began sometime before their posting of an official update post on their website earlier this week. As such, the developers' comments feature a decent array of teasers for the game, and they are as follows: "In [Hitman Next-Gen] you will experience a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career- the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA. We've [drawn] inspiration from past titles like Contracts and Blood Money [...and] we've adopted an open, non-linear level design to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living, breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves."
Hitman 6 will retail on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2015.
