Hopes of a spiritual successor to Django Unchained have been quashed, as Tarantino's latest project comes to an untimely halt!
Quentin Tarantino has today announced the cancellation of his upcoming motion picture production The Hateful Eight. The news comes in the midst of the project's pre-production phase, with Tarantino confirming that one of six production executives who had seen the screenplay must have shown it to their agent, leading to the script being leaked onto the web earlier today.
In case you hadn't heard, The Hateful Eight was set to be a satirical spin on the Western (much like the director's 2013 effort Django Unchained, though in a slightly different vein), its title recognised as a pun on the classic 1960 cowboy flick The Magnificent Seven. Discussing the film and its immediate (potentially indefinite) hiatus, Tarantino divulged that he had "finished a script, a first draft" which was set to film this Winter and that as a result of becoming "very, very depressed" by the leaking of the screenplay, he'll "publish it" and "move onto the next thing". Certainly, this is a nigh-unprecedented turn of events which no doubt marks a profound lowpoint in the illustrious helm's career, but with any luck, it'll prove to be nothing more than a misstep, leading Tarantino onto a more secretive and therefore dramatically engaging motion picture for the audience to witness free from pre-release spoilers!
