A galaxy far, far away is getting closer, and another piece of the oncoming marketing surge has slotted into place...
Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have today announced the company that will publish comic-books based on their revived Star Wars film franchise. Star Wars Episode VII is currently in pre-production, with all eyes on J.J. Abrams to deliver in the first of five annual instalments which will recommence the narrative first depicted with George Lucas' Star Wars in 1977.
Marvel Comics (or Marvel Worldwide Inc.) will publish all future Star Wars comic-book releases after this year. Until now, Dark Horse Comics were the official publishers of any graphic novel works based on Lucas' vast universe and science-fiction mythology, including the famed series Dark Empire and its acclaimed successor Dark Empire II. Definitive plot details will likely be made apparent in the coming months. Disney and Marvel's press release does mention "the adventures of Luke, Han, Leia and Chewbacca", though, so expect the first chapters of the range to either reference or take place in the timeline of the Original Trilogy.
Marvel Comics' publishing deal with Disney and Lucasfilm on future Star Wars comic-book projects will begin in 2015.
