David Jason and Lynda Baron return to BBC1 for a new series later this year!
The BBC have today announced the commissioning of a full season of their comedy programme Still Open All Hours. Scheduled to commence production this Spring, the first complete run of the revived sitcom will will once again star Only Fools and Horses' David Jason, Doctor Who: Closing Time's Lynda Baron and Never Mind The Buzzcocks' Johnny Vegas, comprising six half-hour instalments.
For those who missed it, this spiritual sequel to BBC One's cult classic Open All Hours (which originally ran from 1978-1985) premièred over the 2013 festive season with a Christmas Special. The one-off episode was watched by over twelve million viewers in the UK, a figure which in hindsight softens any potential blow taken from the shock of the show's recommissioning. In a similar vein to the scorned-yet-chart topping Mrs Brown's Boys, Still Open took quite the critical beating upon its Boxing Day début, and the true test of Season One will be whether Jason and the team aim to simply replicate Brendan O'Carroll's consistently baffling overnight figures or to match the acclaim of their hallowed original hit come the overnight reviews.
Still Open All Hours will return for a new series on BBC One this Autumn.
