The Hunger Games' Effie Trinket takes the director's seat for an A ca-tastic sequel...
Universal Studios have today announced the director of their upcoming musical-comedy film Pitch Perfect 2. The follow-up to 2012's biggest surprise hit will see Twilight's Anna Kendrick and Bridesmaids' Rebel Wilson reprise their roles as Becca and 'Fat Amy' respectively, and the return of the first film's charming gang of supporting stars including Skylar Astin, John Michael Higgins and Christopher Mintz-Plasse is all but inevitable.
One of Pitch Perfect's original performers who will definitely be making a re-appearance, albeit in a more substantial role this time around, is Elizabeth Banks. Banks played a commentator at the fictitious International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella tournaments alongside Higgins, but when the Hunger Games actress returns for the sequel, she will both star in and direct the film. As promotions go, Banks must be fairly chuffed with her ascension into the director's chair here, and her appointment certainly represents a step up from her previous directorial work on the ever-scorned Movie 43, a cinematic atrocity which we're sure that each and every contributor wants to erase from their CV as soon as possible. All that remains now, of course, is to discover whether the star of next month's The LEGO Movie can make it in the big leagues...
Pitch Perfect 2 takes the spotlight in cinemas worldwide in 2015.
UPDATE: Universal have just announced that Pitch Perfect 2 will release in cinemas on May 15th, 2015.
