The BBC have today released the television trailer for the final episode of Sherlock Season Three. Titled His Last Vow, the third instalment of the run stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, Martin Freeman as John, Amanda Abbington as Mary, Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft, Louise Brealey as Molly and introduces Lars Miekellsen as Charles Augustus Magnussen.
Unlike The Empty Hearse and The Sign of Three, Vow's trail (below) indicates a far darker and pathos-ridden tone for the series' finale. Written by Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, the 90-minute instalment's premise involves Holmes investigating a series of intercepted letters, only to encounter Magnussen in a ferocious battle that threatens to tear the Great Detective's world apart. Magnussen is no Moriarty, utilising raw power from his elusive organisation to attack his sociopathic adversary and his allies physically rather than the psychological torments which Andrew Scott's antagonist put Holmes through in The Reichenbach Fall. Nevertheless, his introduction into the series could prove to be one of the most devestating and thrilling events of the season, if not in the show's history!
Sherlock concludes with His Last Vow on BBC One this Sunday January 12th at 8.30pm.
