No, it's not the title of any of the Season Eight episodes- in fact, it's the next best thing!
BBC Books and Doctor Who Magazine have today announced that a new hardback novel based on the BBC's science-fiction drama Doctor Who will come to retail later this year. Titled Doctor Who: Engines of War, the text will focus primarily on the War Doctor, a dark incarnation of the Time Lord (played by John Hurt in last year's hit 50th Anniversary Special The Day of the Doctor) whose blood-ridden actions in the Time War have until now remained something of a mystery to fans.
The curtains were pulled from this remarkably well-kept secret in Issue 473 of DWM, which is available to purchase in all good newsagents as of today. We've yet to receive an official plot synopsis or a full cover image for Engines of War (though a scaled-down version of the latter can be found in the pages of the magazine), but you'll be the first to know once either of these details arrive on the web. Until then, here's what author George Mann (an esteemed sci-fi writer and editor) had to say in the new edition of DWM regarding the key elements and the tone of his narrative: "A new companion! Calculating Time Lords! New Dalek paradigms! It's a war story, at its heart, set against the backdrop of great turmoil and chaos. But it's also about the Doctor's personal journey, how he ends up where he is at the beginning of The Day of the Doctor. He's been through the wringer, and in Engines of War, he's not given any reprieve." Suffice to say that this is already one of our most anticipated literary releases of 2014, so you can expect to hear plenty more on the novel here at On-Screen in the months ahead.
Doctor Who: Engines of War will retail for £12.99 in all good book retailers from July 31st.
