Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment have this week announced the development of LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham for release on a range of video games consoles later this year. Brought to life once again by TT Games, the third instalment in the action-adventure platforming (sub-)franchise will re-acquaint fans with the Justice League as the iconic DC team battle the nefarious Brainiac not only in Gotham City but additionally in outer space (thanks to some seriously stylish astronaut-esque attire).
Of course, as the game's title suggests, this is by no means our first block-tastic trip into the world of the Caped Crusader and his superheroic allies, and if there's one thing that LEGO The Hobbit taught us last month, it's that return trips in this series rarely tend to be as memorable as the initial excursion. That we awarded LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes an 8/10 score back in 2012 (see our review at Non Specific Action here) does admittedly bode well in comparison to the original entry's less-than-stellar 6/10 rating here, and it's with that in mind that we're prepared to withhold judgement until more gameplay footage has been released. Expect to encounter new heroes, villains, customisable armoured suits and locales galore, as well as a decent few LEGO Movie-themed gags if the teaser trail (below) is any indication, as you team up with the Lantern Corps in an intergalactic adventure for the ages (or at least for 2014, anyway!).
LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will retail for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo WiiU and Nintendo 3DS this Autumn.
