Say sayonara to Drew Goddard and hola to Steven DeKnight...
Marvel Studios and Netflix have today announced the newly-appointed executive producer of their upcoming online TV superhero drama Daredevil. Based in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (i.e. allowing the character in question to interact with the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the like at some point if Kevin Feige and co. so desire), the first season of the programme will be uploaded in its entirety on Netflix rather than broadcasting in weekly instalments.
Although the original plan was to have The Cabin in the Woods helmer Drew Goddard serve as the show's executive producer and (presumably) its solitary director, but (as the Ant-Man production team will attest- more on that development later!) plans can shift in this industry with barely a second's notice, and as testament to that, we can now confirm that Steven DeKnight (the man partially behind Spartacus, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) will serve as his replacement. Although Goddard has at least written the opening pair of episodes and will still act as an exec of sorts, he is moving on to pen the screenplay for Sony Pictures' upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man spin-off film The Sinister Six and to oversee its production, leaving DeKnight to take the reins as the show-runner of one of the most ambitious Netflix projects yet- bring it on, we say!
Daredevil will première on Netflix this Autumn.
