20th Century Fox have today announced the commissioning of a full season of their upcoming detective drama Gotham. Based loosely on DC's ongoing Batman comic-strip, the series will focus primarily on Captain James Gordon and his ascension through the ranks of the Gotham City Police Department in the midst of the emergence of hordes of super villains who will slowly define the adventures of everyone's favourite Caped Crusader.
We'll update this article with Fox's official press release on their latest major commission for the 2014/15 TV season as and when it arrives early next week (along with- hopefully- confirmation of a second season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. soon after), but for now, here's a snapshot of the tweet from the studio's official Gotham account which revealed the news:
It's official: @FOXTV Orders #gotham to Series!!!

Gotham will première on Fox (and a still-to-be-confirmed UK network) this Autumn.
