But is it a case of two-and-a-half glasses full or two-and-a-half glasses empty?
CBS have this week announced the cancellation of their long-running TV comedy Two and a Half Men. The hit series (which currently stars Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer) aired its first episode in 2003 and ran for eleven seasons, but its situation took a turn for the worst in 2011 when lead star Charlie Sheen departed after a series of rows with executive producer and writer Chuck Lorre.
As such, though it'll air one final season on CBS and Comedy Central, Men will not return for any more Malibu-based hi-jinks after that, a development which shouldn't come as a great shock to anyone who's watched the ratings plummet on a season-by-season basis ever since Sheen's exit. CBS' President Nina Tassler revealed at an Upfronts press conference last week that Season 12's narrative will take the form of a "season-long event", with Lorre apparently having conceived "some great ideas and very big surprises" in order to send out his pet project with an almighty bang in 2015. Stay tuned to On-Screen for all the latest details on Two and a Half Men's final episodes and any potential returning guest stars (could Sheen even make a final appearance, we wonder?)...
Two and a Half Men returns for its twelfth and final season on CBS and Comedy Central this Autumn.
