Disney aren't going to let us forget about their first foray into the world of Star Wars anytime soon!
Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have this week released the teaser trailer for their impending animated science-fiction TV series Star Wars: Rebels. Set in the 30-year gap which separates the narratives of 2005's Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and 1977's Episode IV: A New Hope, the show details the creation and the first missions of the Rebel Alliance (as we came to know them by the time that Luke Skywalker stepped up to fulfil his Jedi destiny).
In truth, following the studio's groundbreaking announcements of their decision to nix the franchise's pre-2014 Expanded Universe and the central cast of Episode VII, it was always going to be virtually impossible for Disney to impress on the same level (or, if nothing else, to create the same level of mass hysteria) with their first video preview of Rebels. All the same, there's no substantial reason (on the basis of the teaser trailer, anyway) for us to think that the spiritual successor to Lucasfilm's beloved animation Star Wars: The Clone Wars will fall short of its predecessor- quite to the contrary, if this initial glimpse is indicative of the show's future quality and indeed the quality of the resurrected franchise as a whole, then it appears that the galaxy far, far away has a very bright future ahead!
Star Wars: Rebels will première with a one-hour special on Disney XD this Autumn.
