Warner Brothers Pictures have today released the first promotional image for their upcoming fantasy blockbuster The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. This third and final instalment in Peter Jackson's series of film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic children's novel The Hobbit will depict Smaug's siege of Laketown, the fall of the ruthless dragon and ultimately the Middle Earth-altering Battle of the Five Armies.
As you'd expect from the marketing campaign for a movie which isn't set to launch in cinemas for another seven months or so, all we're getting here is the official logo for Battle (above). It seems relatively safe to say that fans won't be able to glean many details regarding its narrative or its divergence from the source material (though given the number of areas in which An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug differed from the original novel, it's also safe to say that you can expect Battle to take its fair share of liberties too), but if nothing else, it's great to see that Warner Brothers are at least attempting to promote the final chapter in Jackson's six-film Middle-Earth saga from a very early stage.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies wages war in cinemas worldwide on December 17th.
