The first plot details on Ubisoft's rumoured upcoming action-adventure video game Assassin's Creed: Comet appear to have surfaced on the unofficial news and reviews website Kotaku. Several reports have hinted at the existence of a current-generation Creed title set to launch alongside Unity later this year, yet Kotaku's source is the first to (boldly) claim that they have attained specific information regarding its narrative and setting.
As ever, take all of the following information with a pinch of salt (or even a spoonful of sugar, if you're fresh off watching the DVD version of Saving Mr Banks), but here's a compilation of the alleged plot details:
- Comet will be set after the events of Black Flag (and as such, potentially in parallel with Unity's storyline, since the French Revolution and the fall of the Golden Age of Piracy both took place during the 18th Century).
- The player will take on the role of a Templar sailor called Shay who comes into contact with key figures from Assassin's Creed III including (but not limited to) its beloved antagonist Haytham Kenway (the son of Black Flag's Edward and the father of ACIII's Connor).
- Shay's tale starts in the year 1758 as he and his crewmates overthrow the captain of their naval vessel and commence a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Judging by the teaser trailer for Unity, this year's next-generation outing will ditch its immediate predecessors' emphasis on seabound exploration and combat, so if the reports surrounding Comet are correct, then fans of ACIII and ACIV will at least get the chance to bid a fond farewell to this critically acclaimed gameplay style.
Assassin's Creed: Unity will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this Holiday, and if Assassin's Creed: Comet is indeed in the works, then it'll ship for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 at around the same time.
