Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Announced

The origins story of Handsome Jack is revealed this year on current-generation consoles!
2K Games and Gearbox Studios have this week announced the development of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for release later this year. Set after the core narrative of the original Borderlands and before the events of Borderlands 2, this rather unprecedented inbetweenquel will chronicle the rise of the 2012 sequel's antagonist Handsome Jack to power and infamy, but don't worry, we'll still get to choose from four playable protagonists rather than being limited to controlling the fan-favourite anti-hero (and better yet, Claptrap is one of the aforementioned quartet!).

For the record, however, The Pre-Sequel is not the same project as Telltale Games' upcoming episodic series Tales From The Borderlands. Quite to the contrary, the latter will be released periodically over the course of late 2014 and early 2015, whereas Gearbox's latest effort will be with us in its entirety before this year is even done and dusted. New features include a customisable O2 pack (one which will be both a blessing and a curse, in fact, since players will have to regularly replenish it whilst exploring non-oxygenated environments), a leap-enhancing jetpack and plenty more besides, and as per usual, there's no better place to stay up to date on all of the latest and greatest developments than right here at On-Screen!

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will retail on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC this Autumn.
