Skulduggery Pleasant: The Dying of the Light Announced

Derek Landy's epic fantasy saga reaches its climax this Summer.
Harper Collins Publishers LLC and author Derek Landy have today announced release details for the final instalment in the Skulduggery Pleasant series of teen fantasy novels. Titled Skulduggery Pleasant: The Dying of the Light, the ninth book's narrative will pick up in the aftermath of the deadly Human-Elemental War which raged in last August's Last Stand of the Dead Men, as Skulduggery and his rapidly depleting gang of accomplices prepare for a battle against the now all-powerful Valkyrie in the form of her evil alter-ego, Darquesse.

What's more, The Dying of the Light won't be our only Skulduggery helping in 2014. Shortly before its August début, a new novella by Landy will be published and will serve as a bridge between Dead Men and the franchise's long-awaited finale. It goes by the name Armageddon Outta Here (if you'll pardon the pun, in the words of Come Fly With Me's Moses Beacon) and boasts three original short stories which should further enlighten us as to the challenge that lies ahead of the World's Other Greatest Detective in the coming months. As ever, saying goodbye to a long-running series such as this marks a bittersweet moment, but if anyone can ensure that Skulduggery and the gang go out on a high, it's most certainly Landy. Skulduggery Pleasant: The Dying of the Light hits UK book retailers nationwide on August 28th, while Skulduggery Pleasant: Armageddon Outta Here arrives at the earlier date of July 3rd.
